Steven Holzner is the award-winning author of more than 100 books, specializing in online topics such as Google Buzz, Gmail, and more. He’s been a contributing editor of PC Magazine and has specialized in online computing for many years. His books have sold more than 2.5 million copies and have been translated into 18 languages. Steve graduated from MIT and earned his PhD at Cornell. He’s been a very popular member of the faculty at both MIT and Cornell, teaching thousands of students over the years. He also runs his own software company and teaches weeklong classes to corporate programmers around the country.

Unbearably Simple

This book seems to be accurate as far as it goes, but tells you nothing you can't find out MUCH more clearly and quickly by simply watching the Sketchup tutorial videos online (all free of course). The explanation of every little step is excruciating. The worst example is that the author begins EVERY new example by having you open the wrong background template and then delete the person figure which appears at the origin. The idiot can't simply tell us, ONCE, to use a more suitable template and then just go on from there. No, every single instruction begins with that same stupid sequence. Did ANYONE edit this book before allowing it to go to print??

Terrible!

The book appears to have been written by an algorithm. The simplest tasks (delete the picture of the person when starting) are repeated endlessly. The slightly more complex items (preparing a finished drawing for import into other documents) are given short shrift. Perhaps the most glaring error is describing a six-sided figure as a pentagon. This sloppiness by an author with advanced degrees he lets us know about. The author also touts the many "how-to" books he has published. I suspect he has written an app where one inputs a few key terms and ends up with a very boring manuscript that is never edited.

Solid Starter SketchUp Book

Great book to get you going, and excellent reference for pointing you in right direction when you are trying to figure out a new SketchUp function.
Helped me begin to become proficient in SketchUp, after a few false starts trying to build more than simple shapes. But if you are already somewhat familiar with SketchUp, might want to look elsewhere.
